Is It Really Free? What's the catch?
The catch is that we retain ownership of the site and are allowed to post advertisements around your blog area. Your financial blog will be set up in a three column format. The first and third columns hold information about the site along with some relevant advertisements designed to both dress up the site and attract new visitors. Your blog space is in the primary hot zone or middle, which is the most critical global navigation point. You can see an example of the layout at FinancialFYI.com.
Additionally, before you can get started we ask that you committ to blogging at least once a week (but prefer more) and that you read and agree to our Terms of Use.
There are a number of ways that you can make money on the Internet and blogging. At this time, this is not a direct goal of this blog network. We are a brand new financial experiement and want to see how the program evolves. During 2008, we plan to re-visit the idea as we have the means to create a revenue sharing model with those financial bloggers who are able to attract visitiors and who blog on a consistent basis.
Can I see a sample financial blogsite? What part of the site do I have control over?
You can check out our most popular financial blog at FinancialFYI.com. You'll notice that it's more of an eductaional, news oriented blog than a diary or journal type blogsite. The goal of financialfyi.com is to create financial buzz and to raise financial awareness and literacy... it's actually a great site to get ideas to talk about in your blog, which is why we created it. In the end, you get to pick how you want to express yourself financially.
As mentioned above, your blog space is in what we can the primary hot zone, which is the middle of the page. We will place relevant advertising in columns one and three to both dress up the site and to attract additional visitors.
What if I want to use one of the names for something other than a blog?
We understand that not everyone wants to be a blogger. You may have a product or service that you want to get on the Internet and you feel one of our names fits a generic description of it. For this purpose we do offer financial domain leasing. In a nutshell, you can rent one of our names for three, six, or twelve months. Lease rates are dependent upon the popularity of the name and start at as little as $25 a month. If you are interested in leasing please email us at Lease@FinancialBlogs.org.
Can there be more than one person on a blog?
Absoutely. We even encourage it. If you have a friend, colleague, or family member that wants to join you in providing regular blogs, we can set them up as a user under your blogsite as well.
What if I can't find the blog name I want?
We maintain a large inventory of "financial" domains on this site. At this time, we do not offer additional domain purchasing services, however we do have other financial related names that are not part of the free financial blog program. These names may be leased or purchased. We will have the list available for your review in 2008.
Can I move my blog to another site or hosting company?
If for some reason you want to move your blogsite, we do offer our financial bloggers the opportunity to lease a site / domain name. This strategy gives you total control over the sites content, without the hassel and cost of actually owning the site. You can lease a blogsite / domain name for three, six, and twelve months. If you are interested in leasing a domain name, please send an email with the desired name to Lease@FinancialBlogs.org.
Do I own the blogsite or domain name I pick? Do I own the copyright?
All financial bloggers maintain a shared copyright with us. Based on our costs to maintain a large investory of premium financial domains and the cost to host and run our network, financial bloggers have no direct or indirect ownership rights. Our goal is to simply provide the internet space for people to share what is going on in their financial life, therefore we retain all rights of ownership for the site and domain name. Please refer to our Terms of Use for more detailed information. If you have an interested in becoming a FinancialBlogs.org investor please email us at Investors@FinancialBlogs.org.
